From the "Marseille" club, they acquired midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa. The Frenchman started this season at an English team to which he was loaned, but now the contract has been bought out.
The 23-year-old footballer, currently recovering from a serious injury, has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract.
"He is a top-level player, proven in France, on the international stage, and in a short time here at Newcastle," said club manager Alan Pardew. "As soon as Hatem can play again, I have no doubt we will once again be convinced of that."
The amount that "Newcastle" paid for Ben Arfa is not disclosed.
