One of the most famous defenders of the Old Continent in this century, Pepe, is retiring from professional football.
The 41-year-old Portuguese announced this on social media.
The oldest participant in the 2024 European Championship tried to end his career on a winning note, but in the quarterfinals of the tournament, he hit a barrier against the French.
In total, Pepe played 141 matches for the Portuguese national team and became the champion of the Old Continent in 2016.
In club football, he found the most success with the Madrid "Real" team, where in ten seasons in Spain, he won three "La Liga" and three Champions League trophies, in addition to other awards.
Throughout his career, Pepe won a total of 34 trophies.
