The new coach of Gelsenkirchen, Ralf Rangnick, was appointed on Thursday. The 52-year-old specialist has put his signature on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Rangnick will start his work on April 1, when "Schalke" will play against "St Pauli". Until then, the team will be temporarily led by Seppo Eichkorn.

The new strategist coached the "Hoffenheim" club until January, and will now replace Felix Magath, who was dismissed due to poor results in the German championship.

Magath was unable to secure his job despite "Schalke" playing in the German Cup final and the Champions League quarterfinals.
