Madrid's "Atletico" club on Saturday announced amazing news to its fans - the future of the team is connected with one of the most promising Spanish national team defenders Saul Niguez.
The 22-year-old defender, who performed amazingly at the European youth championship and became the top scorer, signed a new contract with "Atletico" for a whopping nine years. Cases like this in football are very rare, but Saul, who grew up in the "Atletico" club, decided to commit to the club until 2026.
In a recent interview, S. Niguez stated that he feels great in the Spanish capital and is grateful to the entire "Atletico" team for their trust in him, so he eagerly awaits the new contract. Today, the prospective player received an exclusive contract.
"Saul is an excellent example for all of our academy graduates. He is hard-working, dedicated team player. Saul is the one who makes those around him play. He has a great long shot, plays well in the second floor and, most importantly, at such a young age, he already has a lot of experience.
We should be very happy that we reached an agreement with this young player. He is such a great player, whose improvement knows no bounds," - said sports director Jose Luis Caminero very nicely about the club's graduate.
S. Niguez joined the "Atletico" academy in 2007, after not very successful two years in the "Real" academy. The defender made his debut in the main team at the age of 17, in March 2012.
Throughout this period, the Spanish national team defender played 148 matches in the ranks of "Rojiblancos", scored 22 goals and won three trophies.
