„Southampton“ announced that they have rented goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg from „Fulham“ in London for one year.
Last season, the Dutchman spent his time on loan at „Monaco“.
„I am very happy to be here“, Stekelenburg told the official team website.
„This is a big, great club, playing in Europe. I can also play there. I played little last year, so I have been given a good opportunity. I am grateful.“
„The last two years of my career were not the best. As they say in England: the best is yet to come.“
The former Dutch national team goalkeeper will replace Fraser Forster, who is recovering from a knee injury and will be out until the beginning of 2016. To secure a place in the main lineup, he will have to compete with Kelvin Davis and Paulo Gazzaniga.
