London's "Chelsea" and Madrid's "Real" clubs have informed on their official websites that they have reached an agreement on the transfer of Thibaut Courtois.
The arrival of the 26-year-old Belgian national team goalkeeper in Madrid has been known for some time. T. Courtois did not even show up for "Chelsea" training this week, and the clubs finally concluded the negotiations on Wednesday evening.
With only one year left on T. Courtois' contract, "Chelsea" did not receive a large sum - 35 million euros. The price could increase by another 5 million euros, depending on the player and team's performances.
The Belgian himself will arrive in Madrid overnight, and tomorrow at 14:00 Lithuanian time, he will be presented at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium. T. Courtois will sign a contract with the Champions League winners until 2024.
T. Courtois was acquired by "Chelsea" club back in 2011, but until 2014 he played for Madrid's "Real" rivals - "Atletico". The Belgian returned to London in 2014 and played 154 matches during that time.
The Madrid team now has a total of four goalkeepers - Keylor Navas, Kiko Casilla, and Andriy Lunin. The latter will be loaned out, and Kiko will most likely be sold. T. Courtois will compete with K. Navas for the number one spot.
