Almost after a break of 20 years, Thierry Henry returns to where his journey to the great football began - the official website of "Monaco" informed that the legendary Frenchman agreed to take over the coaching job at their club.
After a very poor start to the season, head coach Leonardo Jardim stepped down from his duties. The talks about T. Henry replacing the Portuguese in that position have been going on for the past week.
For the 41-year-old Frenchman, this will be his first job in the head coach's seat - from 2016 until this summer, he was part of the coaching staff of the Belgian national team, assisting Roberto Martinez.
At the beginning of the season, "Aston Villa" and "Bordeaux" clubs were interested in T. Henry's services, but an agreement with the legendary footballer was not reached.
Someone who knows Monaco well, told the club's website: "First of all, I would like to thank Monaco for the opportunity to coach the club that has always been special to me. I can't wait to meet the players and start working together."
T. Henry grew up in the ranks of "Monaco" - he joined the club's academy in 1992 and played for the main team from 1994 to 1999. In total, he played 141 matches and scored 28 goals for the team.
"Monaco" has only managed to secure one victory in the "Ligue 1" championship this season. T. Henry's coaching debut will take place on October 20th - they will face "Strasbourg" away.
