Today, UEFA officially announced that from next season the away goals rule will no longer apply in UEFA competitions and will be removed from the regulations. This means that if both teams have a tie after two matches in the knockout stages, extra time will be played. UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin's comment: "This rule has had a different effect in recent years than it did at the beginning, as teams playing at home in recent times attacked less and simply feared conceding that goal that would give their opponents a significant advantage." These innovations will be seen in all UEFA competitions, including the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and the new UEFA Europa Conference League. This will also affect Lithuanian teams, which will soon begin their journey to the main UEFA tournaments. ⚽ The away goals rule will be removed from all UEFA club competitions from the 2021/22 season.
