Finally officially announced that "Manchester United" has acquired Lisbon's "Benfica" defender Victor Lindelof.
The fact that an agreement was reached for the transfer of this player was announced by the "Red Devils" on Saturday, but now all the details are finally agreed upon.
The 22-year-old Swede passed a medical examination and signed a four-year contract, and Manchester club will likely have to pay 40 million pounds sterling for this newcomer.
"Victor is a very talented young player who has a great future ahead of him in the 'United' ranks," said team coach Jose Mourinho. "Our season last year showed that we need more options and quality to have a stronger squad, and Victor is the first one to join us this summer. I know that our fantastic group of players will welcome him as their own."
Initially, "Man United" will pay 30.9 million pounds for Lindelof, and the remaining amount related to the player's performance will be transferred in due course.
"I'm excited to join Manchester United," said Lindelof. "I really enjoyed my time with Benfica and learned a lot there. However, I can't wait to play in the Premier League, at Old Trafford stadium, and in Jose Mourinho's team. I look forward to starting and contributing to the team's efforts to win even more trophies."
Almost all of his adolescence Lindelof spent at his hometown club "Vasteras", and he has been playing for Lisbon's "Benfica" team since 2012. In total, he played 73 matches for the Portuguese champions. Lindelof has already represented the Swedish national team 13 times.
