The voice of football fans was heard.
UEFA officially announced that the video assistant referee (VAR) system will be introduced in the Champions League from the 2019/2020 season.
VAR will also be used in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup match, the group stage of the 2020/2021 Europa League, and the finals of the 2021 Nations League.
The system is planned to be implemented at least in part of the 2020 European Championship matches.
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said:
"We are confident that before the introduction of the VAR system in matches taking place in August 2019, we will have enough time to test everything and train the referees to use it, which will ensure the successful integration of the video review system into the leading world football club tournament - the Champions League."
