The midfielder Claudio Marchisio, who spent most of his career at Turin's Juventus, officially confirmed his retirement on Thursday.
The 33-year-old football player returned to Turin and held his final press conference at the Juventus stadium. His professional career lasted 14 years.
"I fulfilled the childhood promise of becoming a footballer," Marchisio wrote on Instagram before the conference. "I would have played longer, but I no longer had any promises to keep, so I decided to stop for good. Thank you, dream, for giving me so much strength, joy, and success," the footballer added.
Marchisio started his professional career in 2005. In 12 years at Juventus, the Italian played 389 matches and scored 37 goals.
Last season, he defended the honor of Zenit St. Petersburg, and when he was very young, he went to Empoli on a short-term loan. He appeared on the field 55 times for the Italian national team.
