The goalkeeper of the German national team Oliver Kahn has extended his contract with Munich until 2008, the Bavarian club announced on Monday.
"I feel too good to retire," the 36-year-old goalkeeper said in an interview with one of Munich's newspapers. "I will extend my contract until 2008."
O. Kahn arrived at Bayern in June 1994 and during that time won the German championship six times, the German cup four times. He also won the UEFA Cup in 1996, and the prestigious UEFA Champions League in 2001.
The leader of the German national team and multiple German champions was named the best player of the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, where he helped his team win silver.
After the World Cup, the German's form declined, but this year one of the world's most famous goalkeepers has been displaying impressive game and, according to experts, winning a personal battle with Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann for the starting goalkeeper position in next year's World Cup in Germany.
"These are great news," Bayern coach Felix Magath was quoted by Bild newspaper. "Olli" is showing fantastic form. Kahn is an example of stability and at his age, he plays at the highest level."
