The Piraeus club of Greece parted ways by mutual agreement with former long-time Brazilian national team midfielder Rivaldo after both sides failed to reach an agreement on the terms of a new contract.
The legendary 35-year-old player, who joined Olympiacos in 2004, was one of the main contributors to the team's success this season, scoring 15 goals and helping the team win the Greek Super League for the third time.
Brazil announced his departure with an emotional press conference, while the club stated: "The player did not accept a specific offer and therefore Olympiacos would like to thank him for his efforts and wish him good luck."
Olympiacos fans hoped that their talisman would stay in Piraeus for at least another year and help the team in the UEFA Champions League group stage matches. However, the former Barcelona and Milan midfielder will no longer wear the Olympiacos colors and will not even participate in the celebration of the title winners that will take place on Sunday after the last match against Ionikos.
