Olympic football: Brazilians show their strength, Argentinians head home

On Wednesday, the group stage of the football event at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, came to an end. In total, eight matches took place.

Brazilian football players, playing in the morning Lithuanian time, had no trouble advancing after two consecutive draws and defeated their opponents from Denmark with a score of 4-0.

The loss was not that painful for Denmark, as after the draws with Iraq and South Africa, they secured the second place. The hosts of the tournament remained in the lead position with 5 points.

In Group B, Colombia defeated Nigeria with a score of 2-0 and secured a spot in the quarterfinals, while Nigeria remained in the first position even in case of a loss. In the same group, Japanese players defeated Sweden, but did not advance to the next stage.

In Group C, an incredible result was recorded. Germany overwhelmed their peers from Fiji with a score of 10-0, however, South Korea's victory over Mexico allowed them to take the first place, leaving the Germans behind.

In the last Group D, Portugal confidently took the first place with 7 points, having played a draw with Algeria in the last match of the group stage.

The most interesting match took place between Argentina and Honduras national teams. Both teams were fighting for a spot in the next stage, but Argentina will not be in the quarterfinals. The teams ended in a draw and collected the same number of points, but Honduras advanced due to a better goal difference.
