Swiss authorities on Thursday began a new series of arrests, extending the investigation into corruption in international football.
The investigation was initiated by the United States, and according to reports, more than a dozen people will be arrested, almost doubling the list of defendants in the FIFA case.
According to the Times, among those arrested today were CONCACAF president Alfredo Hawit and CONMEBOL official Juan Angel Napout. These arrests show that North and Central American football leaders will not escape responsibility.
Officials arrested FIFA representatives for the first time in May, when charges were brought against 18 individuals from 12 different countries who were arrested for corruption and bribery in the bidding process for the World Cup host.
