The historical achievement of “Osasuna” in the previous season, is likely not to open a new page in the club's history.
UEFA announced that due to the match-fixing scandal that took place in the club in 2013, they will not be allowed to participate in the Conference League.
By finishing seventh in Spain, “Osasuna” earned the right to participate specifically in the Conference League, where next year they will also compete against teams like “Aston Villa”, “Eintracht”, “Lille”, and “Juventus”. By the way, there are also uncertainties regarding the Italian team. The “old lady” involved in the scandal last season could complicate relations with UEFA, trying to withdraw from the Conference League, as reported by “Tuttosport”.
In that case, the place of the Turin club would be taken by the players of “Fiorentina”. In the meantime, “Osasuna” will be replaced by the Bilbao “Athletic” team, led by Ernesto Valverde.
However, the Pamplona club will still appeal the decision. Their official statement reads as follows: “UEFA - strict with the weak, and lenient with the strong.”
