Other European Leagues: Overview of Denmark's "Superliga" Championship

EuroFootball.com continues the reviews of European football leagues. This time, the Danish "Superliga" championship will be reviewed, where a winter break was announced after eighteen rounds. Who is leading the championship, which club is performing well in Europe, and how are things going for Lukas Spalvis and his club - all in this review.

Leaders: "FC Copenhagen"

Before the season, the strengthened "FC Copenhagen" team is currently leading the Danish championship and preparing seriously for the second part of the competition. With the best defense in the "Superliga" championship (conceding only 12 goals), they further strengthened this area by acquiring former "Gent" defender Erik Johansson in January. However, even at the top of the table, the capital city team cannot relax - the differences between competitors at the top of the Danish championship are not significant, and two losses could push them down even to fifth place.

Champions: "Midtjylland"

The previous champions of the Danish championship currently do not shine and are in third place. However, the team looks good in European competitions and will continue their battles in the Europa League knockout stage in the summer. Their opponents will be the team of "Manchester United". "Midtjylland" has already faced one English club in Europe and celebrated a victory - in the last round of the Europa League qualifiers, the Danes defeated "Southampton" with a close result of 2:1.

Most surprising: "Aalborg"

The "Aalborg" team, which finished fifth last season, aimed to reach a similar position this season. The first half of the season exceeds the expectations of the team leaders. Despite having a lower budget than the strongest clubs in the country, the results of the "Aalborg" team are comparable to the wealthier Danish teams. They entered the winter break in second place, just a few points behind the leading "FC Copenhagen" team. If the club manages to retain Lukas Spalvis and other team leaders during this winter, there is a possibility that they could repeat their achievement from 2014 and compete for the title of Danish champions.

Top scorer: Lukas Spalvis

This season, Spalvis quickly reminded everyone that he can score goals. Making it into the starting lineup in just the fourth round, he has scored fourteen goals in fifteen matches since that moment. Recently, there have been rumors that "Aalborg" might sell the most productive player of the league, but if the player and the club decide that the attacker will stay until the end of the season, Spalvis will undoubtedly be the favorite to be the top scorer in the championship and after the season. With fourteen goals, the Lithuanian striker already surpasses his closest competitor in the tournament table by five goals. Such performances by the striker should help him move to stronger leagues as early as this year.
