P. Bento will no longer coach the Portuguese national team

The Portugal national team has been left without a head coach. The country's football federation confirmed that 45-year-old Paulo Bento stepped down from his position after an unexpected loss to the Albanian national team. It is currently not announced who could take the vacant position. "We thank P. Bento for the work done and for leading the team to the 2012 and 2014 championships," the federation statement reads. The specialist has been leading the team since 2010, when he took over from Carlos Queiroz. In the last European championship, the Portuguese team reached the semi-finals, where they lost to Spain after a penalty shootout. Meanwhile, their performance in that year's World Cup was worse and ended after the group stage."
