P. Collina: VAR - great, but referees can't relax © imago-images

One of the most famous referees of all time, Pierluigi Collina, is pleased with the innovations in football, but also noted another important thing. According to the Italian working as the head of FIFA referees, they should not always blindly rely on technology during matches. "The goal of introducing VAR was not to eliminate controversy, but to eliminate mistakes that could affect the result and course of the match. I think this goal has been achieved. Yes, technology helps, but nothing will replace a human. If I could turn back time and referee again, I would gladly try VAR. On the other hand, referees must continue to work hard and prepare for matches, and also know in advance the teams and players they will have to deal with. All of this will help avoid as many mistakes as possible in the match," said P. Collina.
