P. Golubickas: we are one fist

"Žalgirio” defender Paulius Golubickas, after securing the champions title, stated that the success of the Vilnius team was determined by unity and more precise play in attack, and he described his season as the best.

P. Golubickas scored the first goal in the "golden” match against his former team "Dainava,” later provided an assist, and was one of the key architects of the victory.

"I’m glad that we managed to secure that title earlier. The result is good, and the emotions are great. Of course, it’s a pity that there were hardly any supporters in the stadium, just minimal numbers. Super, we are very happy, it was a great season and everyone is satisfied,” he said.

The defender became the Lithuanian champion for the second time after a 5-year break. "The feeling is perhaps even better because it has been quite a while since we had to win that title. The feeling is indeed wonderful. We have shown that we deserve it with our play and results. I’m happy for the team, for the supporters, for the club itself. Last year we didn’t succeed, but we didn’t stop, we didn’t give up, and this year we regained the title,” said P. Golubickas.

Comparing this season to the previous one, where Žalgiris finished second, he spoke about positive changes in the team’s atmosphere: "This year, perhaps, we are a more united team. Many players changed, new ones came in. In some positions, we added quality. I think we all fought together like one fist, we fight more for each other. Of course, there was better fulfillment in the third zone, I think. Last year we created a lot of opportunities, but somehow we couldn't finish them. This year there were missed ones too, but we created more and converted those goals. Still, I believe the main reason is that we had a great team, and we carried everything from the locker room to the pitch.”

This season, P. Golubickas has already scored 6 goals and provided 10 assists. "I can now say that it’s probably the best season both statistically and in terms of how I feel on the pitch. Of course, the team contributes to those individual results. I am playing perfectly with Giedrius Matulevičius; he "feeds” me with balls, and I give them to him. There are many factors, but this season is definitely the best for me.”

The footballer also thanked V. Čeburinas, with whom he worked together to win his second title.

"I have to thank the coach. Three seasons with him, and two titles won. This means he finds something in me and knows how to utilize it. I thank him for allowing me to express myself on the field. He finds the right position for me, brings the team together, utilizes the best sides. He gives a little freedom. Although he wants discipline, he also gives freedom. This is a significant contribution from the coach. It’s great that the players also accept what he conveys to us,” said P. Golubickas.
