Before announcing that Mohamed Salah was named the best player of the season in the Premier League, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola expressed his opinion on the elections.
According to the Catalan, this award should have gone to Kevin De Bruyne, who led the city team to the title, despite the fact that Liverpool's striker demonstrated better statistics.
The Belgian national team player has scored seven goals and made 15 assists in a total of 33 English league matches so far.
"You know my opinion on these awards," Guardiola said. "If he doesn't win, congratulations to the guy who wins. But in my opinion, when you analyze the last 9 or 10 months, considering the consistency and playing in all tournaments every three days, there was no better player than him."
"I apologize. Maybe there are players with better statistics than him, but there was no better player during the season. He was the best for me, that's my opinion, and opinions may differ."
"I feel he deserves it, but in the end, he will be the champion at home this summer."
De Bruyne, who outscored Salah with 31 goals and 10 assists in 33 Premier League matches.
