P. Guardiola: "English Premier League is much more important than the Champions League"

Pep Guardiola continues to believe that the team's priority should be the English Premier League, as the UEFA Champions League is too much of a lottery.

This evening at 17:00, the winners of the Champions League and the Premier League, "Liverpool" and "Man City" respectively, will face each other for the Community Shield trophy.

Guardiola says, "In the Premier League, you have to be focused for the entire year, whereas in the Champions League, your fate is decided by seven matches. Of course, we need to win trophies in Europe, which is also important and challenging. Nevertheless, we will not engage in casino or gambling games where everything is dependent on seven matches."

"I want to be happy for 11 months, and winning the Premier League makes me happy. Why should I wait until February and hope that those seven matches will be successful for us? In my opinion, it is just too risky. The main focus should be on the Premier League, which is the most important to us. It is an outstanding championship because you play every week. I think we will be much closer to triumph in the Champions League when we have more Premier League trophies. I believe it's the right process," added the strategist.

Later, Guardiola also criticized the "Liverpool" club, which won its sixth Champions League trophy this year.

"We would also like to win the Champions League, so Liverpool deserves respect. However, I don't think it is a bigger achievement than what we have done in the 11 months of the Premier League. I have no doubt that Liverpool would be delighted to win the Premier League as they haven't done it in 29 years. They were incredible in the Champions League, but we are better in the league," concluded the Catalan.
