"Premier League clubs in England continue to play at an inhuman pace and will start the 24th round of matches on Tuesday.
Lately, there has been more talk that the number of matches in the UEFA Champions League may increase in the near future, but Manchester City's strategist Pep Guardiola cannot imagine how English clubs should play in such a case.
"I think the only solution to solve this situation is to extend the year to 400 or 500 days. Then we could talk about additional matches. UEFA and FIFA can talk about it, but we have only a few remaining free days in a year.
England should reduce the number of tournaments. It would make our schedule easier. There would be fewer matches, fewer tournaments, but more quality. People would like that," Guardiola said at a press conference.
An intense schedule in England is harmful to footballers. Just recently, two important English national team players - Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford - suffered injuries. Guardiola is convinced that players simply cannot withstand such a workload.
"This is a huge blow to the English national team. Both Kane and Rashford are extremely important players. I hope they will recover in time for the European Championship.
The number of matches is unbelievable. Now we are starting to talk about it because two bright English stars have been injured, but this has been going on for a very long time.
Footballers simply cannot handle such a number of matches. It doesn't surprise me at all," the strategist expressed dissatisfaction.
