Manchester City's head coach Pep Guardiola, ahead of the upcoming match against Everton, stated that he hopes James McAtee will remain with the club for the next season and that this season in the Premier League could have been even worse:

"It’s not a bad thing when you’re fighting for a Champions League position.”

"In the Premier League, you could be in a much worse position if we performed significantly worse in the last four or five months... We could have been in 11th, 12th, 13th, or 14th place.”

"I hope J. McAtee stays for next season.

I understand players wanting more minutes. I hope he stays because this Englishman is an academy player, knows the nuances of the club, is a great guy and person. He trains very well and can play in several positions.”

Manchester City is in fifth place in the Premier League with 55 points. This position would allow qualification for the Champions League.
