Former Arsenal footballer Paul Merson believes that Unai Emery should finally decide on the captain of the Gunners' club.
Last season, the captaincy was managed by Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal, and Aaron Ramsey. The entire quartet has already said goodbye to Arsenal.
Currently, Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil are taking on the captain's duties. Merson believes that U. Emery should appoint one player as captain who could become a strong leader in the team. According to him, David Luiz, who arrived from Chelsea this summer, is suitable for this role.
"It troubles me when the coach talks about having five captains during the season. This just shows that there is no leader in this team," said the 51-year-old Arsenal legend on Sky Sports.
"Emery has been here for a year and a half, but he has five captains because he still cannot select the strongest lineup. A good team is one that plays together for weeks, but in the Arsenal team, we do not know who will play one week and who will play the next."
"David Luiz should be made the captain, he is a true winner. People may say that he will have a bad day one day and a good performance the next, but it is clear that he will play every week.
I am not a big fan of when a forward becomes captain, but Aubameyang, I think, would also not be a bad candidate for these duties," added P. Merson.
