Milan's defender will have to miss the next three matches. This punishment was imposed by the disciplinary committee of the Italian football league for receiving a red card in the "Serie A" league match against the "Roma" club.
P. Vieira was sent off the field during last week's Champions League match against Lisbon's "Sporting" team, and on Wednesday, the captain of the French national team was expelled from the field at the Rome Olympic Stadium when he was shown a second yellow card.
This is a violation that would usually result in a lighter punishment, but P. Vieira was punished more severely for allegedly using disrespectful and insulting words to the referee. Milan's "Inter" club has appealed this decision.
