"Palermo" Coach Became L. Del Neri © EuroFootball.com

The team that finished sixth in the new "Serie A" has appointed former strategist Luigi Del Neri as their coach, signing a two-year contract with the Sicilian club on Tuesday.

Del Neri has been mentioned in the Italian press for some time as a possible candidate to replace the departed F. Guidolin, and despite "Palermo" president M. Zamparini stating a few days ago that negotiations with the coach had broken down, the club unexpectedly announced Del Neri's appointment.

The 54-year-old Del Neri is returning to work after a full twelve months of events - the coach left Verona's "Chievo" team last summer, with whom he impressed all of Italy, and moved to another club, but worked there for only a couple of weeks before being dismissed.

In September 2004, Del Neri took over the coaching position at a club in the capital, but he did not have much success there and decided to resign in March. Now the strategist faces a challenging task - with the "Palermo" team next season, he will have to participate in the UEFA Cup tournament.
