The Brazilian football championship reached its final straight - the pre-last round matches were played over the weekend.
The champions ended up being the San Paulo "Palmeiras" club, led by one of the country's most prominent coaches Luiz Felipe Scolari. "Palmeiras" secured the first position in the Brazilian "Serie A" championship with a 1-0 victory over "Vasco da Gama.
For the victory, "Palmeiras" needed to fight till the end - it was only in the 72nd minute that Deyverson's goal brought three crucial points to the team.
With only one round left to play in the championship, "Palmeiras" gained a five-point advantage over the second-placed "Flamengo," which made the latter lose any chances of becoming champions.
For "Palmeiras," this was the club's tenth "Serie A" title in its history. The last time the team triumphed in the country's championship was in 2016 when Gabriel Jesus, now playing for "Man City," was in the squad.
The podium positions are clear too - the second place went to "Flamengo," while "Internacional" celebrated the third position.
The most likely top scorer of the championship will be Gabigol, temporarily back at "Santos" from Milan's "Inter" club - he has scored 18 goals, surpassing the second place by five goals.
