105 new transfers or 1.24 billion pounds sterling – that's how much English Premier League clubs spent altogether in this summer's transfer window. The transfer window closed at midnight on Monday in Europe. While most major leagues had to tighten their wallets this summer, Premier League clubs didn't even feel the pandemic.
Premier League clubs collected a total amount of 355.15 million pounds sterling from player sales. The club that spent the most in this transfer window was London's Chelsea, owned by a Russian billionaire. They didn't spare 226.1 million pounds for new purchases. The most expensive purchase in the Premier League became Chelsea's new signing from Germany – Kai Havertz, costing 75.8 million pounds.
Manchester City spent 147 million pounds. They and Chelsea were the only ones to enter the "100 million club" this summer. Aston Villa from Birmingham unexpectedly took third place – 85 million pounds. It's interesting that the 1.24 billion pounds could still not be the final amount, as until October 16, English clubs can perform market actions internally – selling and buying players.
On the other hand, the club that earned the most in this transfer window was Wolves, whose account was enriched by 76 million pounds. However, their expenses for new purchases (83.6 million) exceeded the balance – 7.6 million pounds in the negative.
