The football club "Panevėžys" will play two "TOPsport A league" matches this week. The first encounter is a postponed match from the 27th round against the Vilnius region team "TransINVEST".
Both teams are fighting for survival: the championship debutants are in eighth place, while the Panevėžys team is in tenth. However, if one of the teams claims victory, they will rise in the league standings.
The "TransINVEST" club has earned 32 points from 29 matches - 17 losses, 2 draws, and 10 wins. The last two victories were achieved under the new head coach Marius Stankevičius. "Panevėžys" has 29 points, and in case of a win, they would catch up to their Tuesday opponent.
In 2024, the Vilnius region team has faced each other three times. In the Supercup, after regular time ended 0:0, there was no winner, but the Panevėžys team prevailed in the penalty shootout; meanwhile, in the Lithuanian championship, they drew 1:1 at home and suffered a 0:3 defeat away.
In anticipation of the upcoming match, central defender Linas Klimavičius shared his thoughts with the fk-panevezys.lt website.
"As the season approaches the finish line, the most important thing is to have the victory in our hands by the end of the matches. I think we can see quite decent gameplay, but right now it’s crucial for us to secure wins, no matter how we play. That’s what we are striving for.
All remaining matches will be equally important. Only by giving our all on the field can we hope for the long-awaited victory. We all understand this, and we will achieve it on Tuesday,” said the club captain.
The encounter between Panevėžys and the Vilnius region clubs will take place at the "Aukštaitija" stadium on Tuesday, October 1. The match starts at 6 PM.
