The football club "Panevėžys" has been taken over by Croatian-born German Rolandas Vrabecas. The contract with the 50-year-old football specialist will be valid until the end of the 2025 season.

At the beginning of this millennium, the new "Panevėžys" strategist coached young players from Frankfurt's FSV and "Mainz 05" teams and also worked as an assistant for the German youth national team. R. Vrabecas held similar positions at Leipzig's "Lokomotive," Hamburg's "St. Pauli," and "Luzern" clubs.

The German began his head coaching career in 2013 with "St. Pauli" and later coached FSV and "Vaduz." With the latter club, he won two Liechtenstein Cups, and in 2018, R. Vrabecas made a visit to Vilnius, where he faced "Žalgiris" in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

After that, the strategist moved to Luxembourg, where he coached Niederkorn's "Progres" club, which performed solidly in the Europa League. This was followed by stints with Denmark's "Esbjerg" and Germany's "Greifswalder" teams.

Before arriving in Panevėžys, the last stop for R. Vrabecas was also in Luxembourg. In the 2023-2024 season, he coached Hesperanžo "Swift," which finished in 2nd place in the local league.

"Panevėžys" will gather for its first training session with the new strategist on January 6.
