Panevėžys defeats the champions - one step away from survival

In the 35th round of the "TOPsport A League," the players from Panevėžys fought for a very important victory, defeating the champions Vilnius "Žalgiris" with a score of 4:2 (2:1).

At the very beginning of the match, Liviu Antalis, who received an excellent pass from Joris Moutachy, missed the goal. A few moments later, young player Domantas Vaičekauskas from Panevėžys got the ball in the opponent's penalty area, but fired it just next to the post.

In the 9th minute, D. Vaičekauskas was presented with another similar opportunity and did not miss—he scored with a precise shot into the near corner of the goal, defeating Žalgiris goalkeeper Arpad Tordai.

Very shortly after, the Vilnius team conceded another blow—28-year-old forward Pavle Radunović successfully converted a 11-meter penalty kick.

In the 22nd minute, another penalty was awarded, this time to "Panevėžys." After a foul against P. Golubickas, the leading forward Liviu Antalis stepped up to the 11-meter mark and successfully scored.

Ukrainian Myroslavas Mazuras took two powerful long-range shots within a minute, but goalkeeper Vytautas Černiauskas was equal to the task on both occasions.

Midway through the second half, creative midfielder P. Golubickas assisted another goal this season, with Serbian Nikola Petković converting the chance into a goal.

In the 75th minute, D. Vaičekauskas defeated the opponent's goalkeeper for the second time that evening, and shortly after, P. Radunović restored the two-goal lead, making the score 4:2.

After the match, the Žalgiris players celebrated their earned trophy with the fans, while the Panevėžys team, having added three points to their tally, surpassed "TransINVEST" and "Džiugas" in the standings.
