The crisis-stricken Italian club has made changes in the position of head coach. Stefano Pioli, who was dismissed from the team, will now be replaced by Claudio Ranieri.
This decision was made by the club's management after last weekend's Italian league match, where "Parma" lost 0-3 to "Roma" and remains in second to last, 19th place in Serie A.
S. Pioli had been working at Parma since last summer. Although the team led by the 41-year-old specialist plays poorly in the Italian league, S. Pioli led Parma to the round of 16 in the UEFA Cup tournament, where the Italians will meet Portugal's "Braga" on Thursday.
Former "Roma" defender Claudio Ranieri began his coaching career at "Cagliari" in 1991, then coached "Napoli" and "Fiorentina", with whom he won the Italian Cup and Super Cup. Later, the 55-year-old coach won the Spanish King's Cup with "Valencia" and worked with Madrid's "Atletico". From 2000 to 2004, he led the London "Chelsea" team to the Champions League semi-finals. In the 2004-2005 season, C. Ranieri coached "Valencia" again, was fired in February, and last season he did not coach anywhere.
A few weeks ago, "Parma" acquired new owners. After the main sponsor "Parmalat" went bankrupt, businessman Thomas Ghirardi took over the club's management.
