Although a few days ago rumors spread that defender Carles Puyol could leave the club, upon his return from vacation Puyol denied the rumors about his possible departure.
"I want to stay here for a long time. The club is like home to me," the Spaniard said at a press conference.
"I am not leaving. My contract is still valid for another three years and the club leaders know that if there is something we need to discuss, they just need to call me. But I assure you, I am happy here and have no plans to leave."
The Spanish national team defender is one of the contenders to succeed as the captain of Barcelona. Brazilian Ronaldinho also does not hide his desire to be captain.
"We will decide among ourselves. Of course, it would be an honor to be the captain, but only if the other teammates want it as well," Puyol said.
