On Thursday, national teams of European countries continued their struggle for a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Unexpectedly, European champions Italy lost points, playing 1:1 at home against Bulgaria. Italy took the lead after 16 minutes with a goal from Federico Chiesa, but Atanas Iliev equalized for Bulgaria in the 39th minute. Spain also suffered a defeat on Thursday, conceding a 1:2 away victory to Sweden. Carlos Soler put Spain ahead in the 5th minute, but Alexander Isak equalized for Sweden just a minute later. Viktor Claesson's accurate strike in the 57th minute secured the victory for Sweden.
England achieved a convincing victory, defeating Hungary 4:0 away. Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Harry Maguire, and Declan Rice scored goals for the winners. Other results include:
