This week it was officially announced that the FA decided to sign a long-term contract with England national team coach Gareth Southgate.
However, according to former national team footballer Peter Crouch, such a contract could turn into a mistake in the future.
"If I worked for the FA and had to appoint a new coach, the last thing I would do is sign a four-year contract.
"In modern football, especially in international football, such a term is too long. Most countries calculate the periods between major tournaments, hedging their bets and giving themselves the opportunity to change course if not everything goes according to plan," Crouch said.
"Nevertheless, if I had to make a decision about G. Southgate, I would have done the same as FA chief Martin Glenn. Gareth deserves it."
