32-year-old center-back Pepe has decided to continue wearing the jersey of Spanish vice-champions Real Madrid.
The Portuguese national team member met with Florentino Perez today and signed a two-year contract. This means that the experienced defender will remain in Madrid at least until 2017.
At the beginning of the summer, there were rumors that Real could sell the Portuguese player, who was particularly sought after by Manchester City and Inter Milan. However, the rumors subsided and the footballer decided to remain loyal to the "White" team.
Pepe joined Real in 2007. Throughout this period, he managed to play 285 matches and score 12 goals. He has won nine trophies.
Although Pepe's contract has been extended, it is almost certain that Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane will form the center-back duo this season.
