Madrid's president Florentino Perez, who was re-elected for another term yesterday, stated that he intends to continue his ambitious buying strategy. Now, his target is the center-back of the English champions, Arsenal, Patrick Vieira.
In the club president elections held yesterday, Perez won with an overwhelming majority, collecting more than 90% of the votes. In his speech after the victory, the president talked about the possible purchase of Vieira.
"I will repeat myself once again, but I intend to continue the same purchasing policy. We still want to have the best players in the world for each position," Perez said. "In my opinion, Vieira is the best player in his position in the world."
It is believed that until now, in the center-back position, Perez most wanted to see the midfielder of the Spanish national team and Real Sociedad, Xabi Alonso, but, most likely, negotiations with the player's club did not succeed, so he had to give up that thought.
A few days ago, Florentino Perez also mentioned that he would like to see the striker of the English national team and Liverpool, Wayne Rooney, within "Real's" ranks.
In his speech, the president also confirmed that he has no intention of selling the star of the team, David Beckham, stating that he is "a very important player for the club."
