The management of the Premier League has decided to make an exception for the "Newcastle" club and allow Glenn Roeder to coach this team. G.Roeder does not have the mandatory UEFA coaching license, but the other teams did not object to the "Magpies" signing a long-term contract with him. "We are pleased to receive the support of other teams, if we were to appoint Glenn as our new coach," - said "Newcastle" chairman Freddy Shepherd. The club will officially announce the new coach's name next Monday. However, last Thursday, representatives of the Premier League rejected Newcastle's request for the mentioned exception. Fortunately, F.Shepherd managed to convince his colleagues, the club chairmen, to allow the new coach to acquire the license while continuing to train the team. Glenn Roeder had already started studying, but in April 2003, he did not complete the courses due to a brain tumor. This time, the courses will begin in June, and by the end of the season, Glenn will have a UEFA coaching license. In February, "Magpies" coach Graeme Souness had to bid farewell to St James Park, and his place was taken by the former Newcastle defender, who had previously led the "Magpies" youth academy - Glenn Roeder. From that moment on, success began to smile again at the Newcastle team, which gathered 32 points in 15 matches, and the victory against Chelsea with a score of 1-0 helped secure a spot in the Intertoto Cup. F.Shepherd believes that a new era for the club has begun. "The end of the season pleasantly surprised us, so fans and players can return to European arenas again," F.Shepherd said. "Plus, on Thursday we have a match to bid farewell to Alan Shearer." On the other hand, the League Managers Association did not support the decision of the Premier League leadership. Its rules strictly state that any candidate for a vacant coaching position in a Premier League club must have all the necessary licenses. "Everyone agreed to these rules and signed them, so it is important to abide by them. It is regrettable that Glenn Roeder has ended up in such a ambiguous situation," - former Charlton coach Alan Curbishley, who also belongs to the LMA committee, expressed his displeasure.
