The Peruvian Football Federation on Thursday suspended the national team striker indefinitely, stating that he had violated federation rules by not playing in the friendly matches against Chile that took place this month.
C. Pizarro missed the second match against Chile at home on October 11, which the team lost 0-1 (they also lost 2-3 in the away match on October 7) and returned to Germany to train with Bayern Munich. The player claimed that he had an agreement with the directors of the Peruvian federation, but the federation denied such claims.
"The player has been removed from the Peruvian national football team. He returned (to Germany - ed.) without permission from the coaches," the federation statement said.
C. Pizarro, who angered Peruvians by not playing in the second friendly match, caused a stir on Tuesday by stating that he will no longer play for his country's team until coached by Franco Navarro.
Former Peruvian national team striker F. Navarro became the head coach of the team earlier this year, but since then the team has not won in any of the five matches played. The last time Peru, who last played in the World Cup finals in 1982, played to a draw with Trinidad and Tobago and Ecuador at home and lost to Panama and Chile twice.
