Venezuela national team member Fernando Amorabieta received a red card for a rough play in the 29th minute. However, Peru's team did not manage to break through the opponent's defense, even though they controlled the ball for more than 66% of the time and constantly attacked.
Nevertheless, 36-year-old veteran Claudio Pizarro, who entered the field as a substitute, scored the winning goal in the 72nd minute.
The fate of the teams in Group C will be decided in the decisive round, when Colombia will play against Peru, and Brazil - against Venezuela.
