Despite the fact that Evra's contract with Monaco was still valid until 2005, the player has now signed a new contract with the team, according to which the young Frenchman will stay in Monaco until 2008.
After Monaco's particularly successful last season, when they reached the final of the UEFA Champions League, the club's players immediately caught the eye of European football giants. Evra was no exception - this summer, he was actively pursued by teams such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Juventus, and others.
However, Monaco, not wanting to lose one of their main defenders, raised his price to a level that scared off all the interested clubs.
Now Evra admitted that he had thought about leaving, but also stated that he is happy to stay in Monaco.
"To be completely honest, I will admit that I thought about leaving," said Evra. "But I am very happy to stay here because in my opinion, for a player of my age, Monaco is the ideal choice."
