Michel Platini was elected unopposed for the second four-year term as UEFA president. 55-year-old former captain of the French national team has been in this position since 2007. Under his leadership, efforts have been made and measures taken to open up the UEFA Champions League tournament to teams from smaller countries, as well as implementing a financial control program where clubs will only be able to spend what they earn in the near future. Platini also promised to strictly combat violence in stadiums in the future. Additionally, there is a promise to actively investigate bribery scandals.
