"The Togolese football players, who no longer have a chance to reach the quarterfinals, received some good news - they were assured that they would receive the promised bonuses from the national football association today.
"They promised to pay us tonight - it will be done with checks," said Eric Akoto. "This is good news for the players. We are satisfied."
The disputes among the Togo national team players began even before the tournament, leading to coach Otto Pfister temporarily leaving the team. Before today's match against Switzerland, it seemed that a scandal could unfold - the players did not intend to leave their training base until they received their payments, and the conflict was only resolved when FIFA intervened.
On Sunday evening, the Togo players agreed to reduce their initial demands: 155,000 euros for qualifying for the World Cup and 30,000 euros for a victory. In the entire 76-year history of the World Cup, no team has ever failed to show up for a match.
The Togo national team will play their last match on Friday, when they will meet France in Cologne."
