The outsider of the English championship will try to acquire striker Edgaras Jankauskas if they fail to sign Senegalese Diomansy Kamara.
Portsmouth's coach Harry Redknapp would like to have a greater choice in the attacking line and has been scouting Europe for potential purchases for some time.
If the English club fails to acquire 23-year-old Kamara, then the second target would be 29-year-old Lithuanian national team striker, who has no place in the main team of "Porto" and, as previously announced, will most likely leave the club of the Portuguese champions.
"We are particularly monitoring two players, and it seems like we are closer to signing the boy from 'Modena.' Harry (Redknapp - ed.) also likes 'Porto' striker Edgaras Jankauskas, so if we fail to buy one, we will have a chance with the other," said president Milan Mandaric to the official club website. "We are aggressively focusing on these two players, but there may be other possibilities, we will have to wait and see."
Meanwhile, Portsmouth announced today the extension of the contract with Nigerian Yakubu. The 21-year-old former teammate of Raimondas Žutautas signed a deal with Portsmouth club valid until 2007.
