In the final qualifying match, the European champions, Portugal, secured their ticket to the championship by defeating Luxembourg with a score of 2:0.
Portugal took the lead in the first half when Bruno Fernandes sent the ball into the net after a wonderful pass from Bernardo Silva.
Portugal struggled for a long time on thin ice, and the guests could have evened the score, but Cristiano Ronaldo secured the victory for the visitors in the 86th minute.
In the European Championship B group, Portugal finished in second place with 17 points, behind the Ukrainians.
In the other match, Serbia let victory slip from their hands in the final moments at home and played a 2:2 draw with Ukraine.
Serbia took the lead in the 9th minute with a penalty kick converted by Dusan Tadic, but Roman Yaremchuk equalized the score in the 33rd minute.
Aleksandar Mitrovic once again put the hosts in front in the 56th minute, but the Ukrainians equalized the score in injury time with a goal from Artem Biesiedin.
Although Serbia finished third in Group B, they still have a chance to qualify for next year's European Championship, as they triumphed in their group in the Nations League.
