One of the most famous clubs in Portugal, Lisbon's "Benfica", has faced serious accusations.
The team reigning in the "Primeira" league has already won four championship titles in a row, although in the 2015/2016 season they barely surpassed their closest rivals, "Sporting", by only two points.
It is precisely at the end of this championship that events could seriously harm the Lisbon team.
It is alleged that an investigation has been launched to determine whether the match on April 24, 2016, against the "Rio Ave" team was not agreed upon and whether four players from the opponent team did not receive financial compensation.
This scandalous information was spread just a couple of days after the latest club and "Feirense" made it to the front pages of newspapers.
It is reported that the match on February 6, 2017, was also "questionable".
However, "Benfica" president Luis Filipe Vieira tried to calm the club's fans:
"Our team is being dragged into scandals in an attempt to prevent us from winning our fifth consecutive championship title. "Benfica" fans can rest assured - no one tried to bribe our referees or the players of our opponents. The match was not agreed upon and could not have been influenced by online betting and company points."
