S

panish midfielder Fernandas Correa could be suspended for a long time if a repeated doping test reveals that he used prohibited substances.

The 29-year-old Uruguayan provided blood samples after the World Cup qualifying match between Uruguay and Venezuela on March 31. In that match, he appeared on the field in the 59th minute, replacing Javier Chevanton. Uruguay's national team won the game 3-0.

After analyzing the blood samples provided, it was revealed that both A and B samples tested positive. Former "Atletico" forward now awaits FIFA's decision, but Uruguay's national team coach Jorge Fossattis stated that he will support the player: "Now all we can do is support Fernandas. He really needs support right now. We will try to help him as much as we can."

"We cannot pretend not to notice such things happening around us," continued the national team coach. "This not only happens in football, and that is why we must help the person who is facing this. It is a very sensitive issue that needs to be addressed.
