League leaders Chelsea left no hope for debutants Norwich, crushing them 4-0 at home. In another match with the same result, Birmingham defeated debutant club W.B.A., who are gaining momentum in the league.
Last-placed Southampton suffered another crushing defeat, losing 5-1 away to Tottenham. In other exciting matches, Manchester United won 5-2 against Crystal Palace.
Middlesbrough also continued their successful run, beating Aston Villa 3-0. Liverpool's Everton, who have been performing well this season, played out a 0-0 draw with Blackburn, earning only one point.
