The traditional national team break after the start of the season is just around the corner, as next weekend the final round of the strongest European leagues will be played, followed immediately by national team matches. There were many rumors that some Premier League clubs, such as Manchester City or Liverpool, may not release their players to play in countries where they would have to quarantine upon returning to England and thus miss several matches. However, today all Premier League clubs unanimously confirmed that they will not release players to national teams that risk missing matches upon their return. These restrictions apply to approximately seventy players from the Premier League out of the nineteen clubs. Most of them are players from national teams of South American or African countries.

Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month. Full statement: https://t.co/JBl6FuzUNC pic.twitter.com/EJiZaODub1 - Premier League (@premierleague) August 24, 2021
